Recessed MR-16 Lights

A halogen lamp MR-16 is another type of incandescent lamp. It is used in applications similar to traditional incandescent lamps, but is also widely used in retail spaces where its excellent color rendering and "whiter" color temperature may be preferred. It is also the most common lamp used in accent lighting for retail displays, artwork, and to highlight landscape features. Low voltage halogen lamps are particularly compact sources that can fit easily in small fixtures in ceilings, track lighting, and within or underneath cabinets and display cases. Halogen lamps have a longer life and are slightly more efficient then traditional incandescent lamps. A great benefit to the halogen lamp is its small filament size. This allows its use in reflector lamps that can be carefully designed to focus the lamp's total light output in a very small area when needed to highlight an object.

Surface and Track Spot

The discussion of track lighting can be divided into two parts: the track itself and the luminaires that are attached to it.

Track is an electrical raceway, usually constructed of extruded aluminum, which has one side open for the insertion of a compatible track fitting, usually a luminaire. The track may be built to accommodate one, two, three, or four circuits, with one-circuit track being the most common. Most tracks are designed for 120 volt service, with 20 amps capacity per circuit. Track lengths of 2, 4, and 8 ft are the most common. Most track systems may be surface mounted to ceilings or walls, recessed flush with the ceiling, or suspended from stems.

Luminaires for track, sometimes called track heads, take many forms, but in virtually all cases, form follows function.

LED Products

Light Emitting Diodes, commonly referred to as LEDs, are very small electronic light sources. They are available in a variety of colors including red, amber, green, blue, & white. LEDs are commonly seen as colored indicator lights on electronic equipment such as stereos. White LEDs use a blue LED coated with a phosphor, or combine a red, green, and blue LED in a single package. Unlike many other light sources that produce colored light by using a filter placed over the lamp, LEDs produce "true" colored light in narrow wavelengths within the visible spectrum. LEDs are commonly found in traffic signals, exit signs, and signal lights on some trucks and buses. As their efficacies increase and the technology for producing white light improves, they will soon find their way into a wider variety of architectural lighting applications.
